The 27-issue series took almost ten years to complete. The series was originally designed to run for 24 issues over two years, but seemed forever cursed by production problems: copyright issues, long creator illnesses, scheduling conflicts, editorial arguments, etc. Cassaday and Martin produced stunning, career-defining art throughout the run. The stories made extensive use of Expys to celebrate the famous characters of each genre.
